In August 2023, wildfires devastated the town of Lahaina on the island of Maui, Hawaii, causing significant loss of life and destruction. The fires, driven by high winds from Hurricane Dora and fueled by dry conditions and overgrown vegetation, destroyed over 2,000 structures, with damages estimated at $5.5 billion. Tragically, 101 lives were lost, making this one of the deadliest wildfires in modern U.S. history. Entire neighborhoods were reduced to ash, displacing thousands of residents and leaving the community grappling with immense loss and hardship.
